National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)
Test dates 2018: 15th - 18th May
What is NAPLAN?
NAPLAN is a test designed to measure certain knowledge milestones a student is expected to achieve. This test is designed to evaluate a student’s overall academic knowledge, rather than a just single year’s curriculum. Your child will receive a report from their school after the completion of the examinations, outlining how they compare to the school and national averages.
NAPLAN testing includes four assessments: 1. Language conventions (grammar, spelling and punctuation) 2. Reading and comprehension 3. Writing 4. Numeracy (Calculator, non calculator and problem solving)
April school holiday workshops
My Tutor are running NAPLAN workshops for children in Year 3, Year 5, Year 7 and Year 9 this school holidays. These workshops are run by experienced primary and high school teachers focusing on the skills necessary to achieve your child's best results on the tests. Workshops are limited to 8 in a group so that each student receives individualised attention.
Primary workshops (Year 3 or Year 5)
Workshops are designed for students in Year 3 or Year 5 who are sitting the exam for the first time. The workshop provides students with experience of the style of questions they will be asked and opportunities to work in an environment where they need to have a go at answering the questions in a given time frame. Time is often a difficult issue for students as they are not used to working at speed or without assistance.
Workshop 1: Numeracy Monday 9th April (1.5 hours) Workshop 2: Literacy Monday 16th April (1.5 hours) Cost: $40.00 per workshop or $60.00 for both (SAVE $20.00)
High school workshops (Year 7 or Year 9)
Workshops are designed for students in Year 7 or Year 9 to specifically look at exam techniques and strategies to help with answering the questions accurately on the day. The workshops will empower students with confidence to sit the exams and simple strategies such as ensuring that they have read the instructions carefully and checking their answers. It is easy to make small mistakes or miss words such as 'not' when reading the question resulting in the incorrect answer particularly in multiple choice where students jump to the wrong answer if the question is read incorrectly.
Workshop 1: Numeracy Monday 9th April (2 hours) Workshop 2: Literacy Monday 16th April (2 hours) Cost: $50.00 per workshop or $80.00 for both (SAVE $20.00)
